Media Review Journal

I was inspired by Juli and decided to start a media review journal. This is where I will review the boos I read, tv shows and movies I watch and the recipes I make. It is located at crazyknittersreview.

1. What genre of books do you enjoy most? crime, medieval/period (less on the romantic side), adventure, fantasy, teen fiction (publishers like Point)
2. What sort of bookmarks do you like best? I have to choose?? umm... pretties. i just love all things pretty (lacy, floral, flutterbys, angels. i think you get the idea here)
3. What are your favorite colors? blue/purple/pink
4. Are there any colors you don't like? pukey dullish ones
5. What sort of "theme'' would you like your bookmark to be? this is for fun, yeah? it's starting to sound like a mail order catalogue... surprise me :D
6. Are there any "themes'' that you wouldn't like?? ditto
7. Can you send internationally? yup
8. If your partner wants to send along extra goodies (like tea, candy, cocoa, etc), what do you enjoy? And is there anything you don't like/can't have?? Besides my daughter having a huge string of allergies, no. Please avoid anything animal.. Am unsure if she will react to woll but she does to cat/dog/rodent. You name it!! Better to be safe than sorry so.. yeah. As such I would prefer to avoid wool, mohair, alpaca or any other such yarns.
9. What crafts are you going to use to make your bookmarks? Is there a particular craft type you would like to receive? I can crochet, tat (tatting), cross stitch, paper craft, sew, bead (bead crochet as well). again with I am open to whatever you lovely people wish to send

The Red Hat Club...

Okay...my first book review. The Red Hat Club by Haywood Smith is the first in the two book set about those crazy over 50 ladies who belong to the Red Hat Society. This is a small group of five ladies who wear their purple and red crazy outfits to their monthly lunches. One of the ladies has discovered that her husband has been cheating on her among many other things behind her back. The group decides to do some detective work and bring him down. The main story also weaves in how the girls met when they were young and some of the antics they pulled then. Trust me, you don't have to be over 50 to read this one....just a good funny read. These ladies are a riot and they get the job done. I'm hoping to read the second in this set entitled "The Red Hats Ride Again." Out of 5 stars...I give this one a 4!

My package has arrived!

I got home from work and my bookmark exchange parcel was here waiting for me - thanks so much Juli! It contained two crimis by authors new to me, a lovely purple heart bookmark and orange tea which I'm drinking now yum!

I visited Lucy's blog the other day and found a link to a great site! PBS -- PaperBackSwap. You can join for free. You plug in the ISBN of books that you have in your personal library that you would be willing to trade. People request those books from you, and you mail them out Media Mail. In return, you get a "credit'' to order a book that you want from the other PBS members. There are more than 680,000 books listed on the group. It's great! So far, I have packaged up 6 books that I will be sending out tomorrow, and I have 3 books ordered that I've been looking for. You get 3 credits to start with as soon as you post 9 books to share.

Hurrah!

My parcel from Juli arrived yesterday! It has taken 5 weeks to make its way from the US to the UK and poor Juli has been harrassing USPS trying to find out where it had got to. It was well worth the wait! I've just finished reading the book and thoroughly enjoyed it, the bookmark is just gorgeous. I don't crochet so I love it even more.
Esta your parcel will be going in the post sometime next week (when I can escape from work long enough to get to the post office!).

What's everyone reading??

I went to the library today and checked out several books by new authors. I wanted to try something different. Of course, I also checked out the latest Mrs. Murphy mystery by Rita Mae Brown. I've been hooked on that series for years. :)

I also chose: "Nursery Crimes'' A Mommy-Track Mystery by Ayelet Waldman
"The Full Cupboard of Life'' by Alexander McCall Smith
"The Jasmine Moon Murder" A Tea Shop Mystery by Laura Childs

So, four "cozy'' mysteries to read! Plus, this past weekend, I bought "Knit One, Kill Two'' by Maggie Sefton, and "The Time Traveler's Wife'' by Audrey Niffenegger.

Lots of good reading! I want to start spending more time reading, and a lot less time watching television! I've started a reading blog at http://bookstothesky.blogspot.com/ to keep track of the books I read. :)

1. One book that changed your life: "Hop on Pop'' -- the first book I learned to read by myself. :) It opened up a whole world of learning...one book at a time.
2. One book that you've read more than once: Pride and Prejudice, and my favorite book, A Christmas Carol (I read it every year at Christmastime!)
3. One book you'd want on a desert island: "Worst Case Scenario'' so I'd know what to do in horrible circumstances. :) or maybe a boy scout handbook....anything helpful. :)
